Bitcoin Price Today: Is BTC Going Up or Down?

As of September 3, 2026, Bitcoin is showing a short-term recovery after a volatile start to the month. At the time of writing, BTC is trading around $77,900, up roughly 1% on the day. The intraday price has moved between approximately $76,300 and $78,000, showing that buyers stepped in after Bitcoin tested lower levels earlier in the session.

Coin-Market-Cap data has also shown Bitcoin trading broadly within the $77,000 range, while Coin Desk reported a rebound above $77,500 during Thursday trading.

The move is positive for the day, but traders should not confuse a one-day rebound with a confirmed long-term breakout. Bitcoin remains slightly lower over the past week, and the market is still sensitive to interest-rate expectations, geopolitical developments and institutional investment flows.

Why Is Bitcoin Rising Today?

One important factor behind today's recovery is buying interest around the $76,000-$76,400 area.

Coin Desk reported that buyers defended a level close to the estimated average cost basis of active Bitcoin investors, around $76,350. This support helped Bitcoin rebound after falling toward $76,400.

However, the recovery is not yet being supported by exceptionally strong spot-market demand. According to Coin Desk, labelled entities sent roughly 3,700 BTC to exchanges over the previous week, while spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced approximately $236 million in outflows. Stable coin supply also remained relatively flat.

These indicators suggest buyers are defending important price levels, but stronger demand may be required for a sustained rally.

Federal Reserve Expectations Remain Important

U.S. monetary policy remains one of the biggest factors affecting Bitcoin.

Investors are closely watching upcoming U.S. employment data because it could influence expectations for the Federal Reserve's September policy meeting.

Higher interest rates can create pressure on cryptocurrencies and other risk assets because investors may become more attracted to interest-bearing assets and the U.S. dollar. Meanwhile, weaker economic data could reduce expectations for tighter monetary policy and potentially support Bitcoin.

Coin Desk noted that weaker-than-expected payroll data could improve Bitcoin's chances of testing the $80,000 level. However, this remains a possible scenario rather than a guaranteed price target.

Technical Picture Traders Are Watching

Bitcoin is also approaching a widely followed technical signal known as a golden cross.

A golden cross generally occurs when a shorter-term moving average rises above a longer-term moving average. Coin Desk reported on September 3 that Bitcoin is nearing this signal, with USDT-related market data supporting the potentially bullish interpretation.

Still, a golden cross does not guarantee that Bitcoin will continue rising. Similar signals have produced mixed results in previous crypto market cycles.

Traders should therefore consider volume, macroeconomic conditions, support levels and risk management instead of relying on one technical indicator alone.

Is Bitcoin Bullish or Bearish Right Now?

For September 3, 2026, Bitcoin's immediate direction can be described as mildly bullish because BTC has recovered from its daily low and is trading higher on the day.

The broader picture, however, remains mixed.

Bitcoin entered September after an exceptionally strong August. Coin Desk reported that BTC gained around 24% during August, while September has historically been a more challenging month for Bitcoin and other risk assets.

For short-term traders, the $76,000-$76,400 region is an important area to watch. If Bitcoin continues holding above this zone, buyers could attempt another move toward $78,000, followed by the psychologically important $80,000 level.

If this support breaks, selling pressure could return.

Bitcoin Price Outlook

Bitcoin is rising today, but the market has not yet produced a clear confirmation that a major new rally has started.

The recovery demonstrates that buyers remain active around important support levels. At the same time, ETF outflows, geopolitical uncertainty, interest-rate expectations and upcoming U.S. economic data continue to create risks.

Therefore, Bitcoin's September 3 movement is better described as a short-term bullish rebound within a still-uncertain broader market.

Anyone trading Bitcoin should closely monitor price action, economic announcements and market risk. Cryptocurrency prices can move sharply in either direction, and today's gains do not guarantee future performance.
