Newly Built Lahore Road Develops Large Sinkhole, Raising Safety Concerns

A large crater has appeared on Lahore’s newly constructed Structure Plan Road in Johar Town, raising concerns over construction quality and inspection standards.

The 1.5-kilometre road, connecting Shadiwal Chowk with Wapda Town Roundabout and Ghaffar Chowk, was completed around four months ago at a cost of approximately Rs. 455.9 million.

According to LDA officials, the road itself did not collapse. Instead, a sinkhole developed after the crown of a 20-foot-deep sewerage pipeline belonging to PIA Housing Society failed.

The LDA has directed its Engineering Wing to recover Rs. 4.1 million from the society, while residents are calling for a thorough investigation into the incident.
